Basic knowledge about gearbox oil,ATF oil: 

 

Gearbox types:

MT: manual transmission

AT: automatic transmission

DCT,DSG: dual-clutch transmission

CVT

AMT

The gearbox oil is same for MT and AMT

DCT,DSG are more complex than MT and AMT, so its oil is different.

We need change oil regularly for AT and CVT

 

Manual transmission fluid type: GL-1,GL-2,GL-3,GL-4,GL-5,GL-6

The most usual types are GL-4, GL-5(GL-6 is used for bus)

CVT oil and AT oil are very similar, but thinner than AT oil, so they can’t be mixed.

Qualified ATF oil must meet requirements as below:

Suitable viscosity and foaming degree

Oil has high antioxidant performance

A certain lubrication performance

bigger ATF ratio

Good antiwear properties

Good matching with rubber sealing material in the system

Excellent anticorrosion (antirust) performance

Good storage and stable properties
